SPORTS-UA-KIDS

Welcome to SPORTS-UA-KIDS, a 501-c-3 nonprofit dedicated to showcasing our program aimed at bringing sports equipment to Ukrainian schools. Join us in our mission to support the physical education and well-being of children in Ukraine. Together, we can make a difference and create opportunities for the youth to engage in sports activities.
Our Primary Mission
Sports-UA-Kids must initially solicit donors for seed financing; this is where we are at as of early December 2025. The next step will be sourcing sports equipment from manufacturers and distributors in order to establish the supply chain required for delivery to schools in Ukraine.
How This Began
Sports-UA-Kids is the brainchild of a school teacher in Eastern Ukraine named Elena. Here is the story: In the winter of 2024, I had been tasked with delivering a U.K. donated mini-bus for the evacuation purposes of a school system on the outskirts of Ukraine’s second largest city of Kharkiv, which is situated in the northeast of this embattled country and a mere 19 miles from the border with their aggressor. (my fifth humanitarian visit since the widespread invasion of 2022) Elena was the designated interpreter for me with her firm command of the English language. And as with all my compassionate and heartfelt interactions with Ukrainians over the course of the twelve months I have spent in this extraordinary nation, Elena and I became fast friends. So, I asked her what else they needed…. “Sports equipment.”

Suggested Equipment to Initially Procure:

To Date: Two Deliveries
In the Summer of 2025, the fledgling Sports-UA-Kids successfully enabled two shipments of sports equipment to Eastern Ukraine. The first was to a school, where the classrooms have been reconfigured in the basement of their schoolhouse, and the second was to a church congregation, who had huddled in the basement of their nave during a bombing as the structure above them burned.

Earlier History
In February of 2022, I was visiting a friend in Warsaw, Poland when Russia commenced their full-scale invasion of Ukraine by sending their marauding army down from Belarus, with the intention of capturing the capital city of Kyiv to force the capitulation and surrender of their independent and sovereign neighbor. To escape the ensuing rape and pillage, women with their children, the elderly and pets in tow, began crossing the Polish border into pop-up refugee camps. These images were widely disseminated across international news channels. As I was a mere four hours drive from this mass exodus with my rental car, I showed up and began ferrying this fleeing citizenry to all points west. After three weeks, I relocated into Ukraine and became involved in the international humanitarian relief initiative, basically as a driver and logistics coordinator. That tenure extended two months and I returned twice more that year, totalling six months in-country. Through 2025, I’ve now made six visits and have spent a year living and working in most regions of Ukraine.

Where We Go From Here
As of early December 2025, Sports-UA-Kids is canvassing for seed financing in order to: 1) Attract assistance with the administration of this emerging program. 2) Explore all the options for assembling quantities of Western-made sports equipment from manufacturers to distributors. 3) Evaluate warehousing logistics, for storing and staging deliveries, in both Ukraine and neighboring EU countries. 4) Investigate all transportation means for deliveries within the supply chain. 5) Scrutinize networks of Ukrainian schools to ascertain their individual requisites for sports equipment. 6) Assemble a team of strategically placed volunteers to assist with localized logistics coordination, including but not limited to: material handlers, drivers and interpreters.
And Finally.....
Ukraine’s future is in the hands of her children. It is they, who will inherit the rebuilding of their cities and towns. Let’s help them prepare for this journey by giving them sports equipment, so they can distract themselves from the daily horrors they now face. Let’s provide them with the tools they need to nurture and strengthen their developing bodies. By playing sports, these kids can build the confidence and mental acuity required when they’re called to step up and face their nation’s challenges. The youth of Ukraine has more potential than the rest of the world could ever imagine. We can boost their empowerment, STARTING NOW.
